We’re delighted to share some wonderful news from Enniscorthy Community Allotments, a beautiful new willow dome has been created on site, and it’s already becoming a much-loved feature of our growing community space.
This unique structure, funded by Creative Places Enniscorthy, and built with the guidance and expertise of Sindy Offer, who has generously tutored willow weaving workshops at the allotments. Sindy is a talented willow artist, basket weaver and craftsperson, and her knowledge and enthusiasm helped bring this project to life in a truly collaborative way.
The willow dome is more than just a structure, it’s a symbol of creativity, sustainability and community coming together.
What Is the Willow Dome?
The willow dome has been carefully woven using natural, living willow, shaped into a welcoming, circular space. Over time, the willow will continue to grow, strengthening the structure and blending beautifully into the surrounding landscape.
This new feature will be used as:
-
A sheltered space for outdoor learning
-
A quiet place for reflection and connection with nature
-
A gathering point for community activities
-
A living example of sustainable, nature-based design
Built using traditional willow weaving techniques, the dome reflects our commitment to natural materials, biodiversity and low-impact construction.
Learning Willow Weaving with Sindy Offer
The project was made possible thanks to Sindy Offer, who has worked closely with our allotments through a series of hands-on willow weaving workshops. Under Sindy’s guidance, participants learned how to:
-
Prepare and handle willow rods
-
Shape and secure living structures
-
Use traditional weaving and tying techniques
-
Understand the sustainability and versatility of willow
Sindy’s warm, encouraging teaching style made the workshops accessible to everyone — from complete beginners to those with crafting experience. The result is a structure that truly reflects the collective effort of the group.
Sindy works under Sindy’s Willow Creations, creating baskets, sculptures and natural willow pieces, while also delivering workshops that connect people with traditional crafts and sustainable practices.

A Space for Community, Creativity and Nature
The willow dome fits perfectly with the ethos of Enniscorthy Community Allotments. Our site has always been about more than growing food, it’s about growing connections, learning together, and creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcome.
As the seasons pass, the dome will:
-
Provide natural shade in summer
-
Offer shelter during wetter weather
-
Encourage wildlife and pollinators
-
Continue to grow and evolve as a living structure
It will also be a focal point for future activities, including workshops, school visits and community events.
