We are absolutely delighted to share some wonderful news with our community: Enniscorthy Community Allotments has won 1st Prize for Best Community Project to Improve Accessibility to Infrastructure at the Keep Wexford Beautiful 2025 Awards.

This inspiring event, organised annually by Wexford County Council, celebrates the environmental champions who work every day to make our county cleaner, greener, and more inclusive.
This year’s ceremony took place on Monday, November 10th at the beautiful Ferrycarrig Hotel, where projects from across Wexford were recognised for innovation, sustainability, and positive community impact.

A Proud Moment for Our Allotment Community

For us, this award is more than a trophy — it’s a recognition of the heart, dedication, and teamwork that define our allotments.
Over the past year, our volunteers have worked tirelessly to improve accessibility throughout the site, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age or ability, can enjoy the space.

Our accessibility improvements included:

  • New, wider pathways suitable for wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and prams

  • Better signage to help visitors navigate the allotments safely

  • Improved entranceways and easier access to shared facilities

  • Raised beds designed for gardeners with limited mobility

  • Community-driven maintenance days to keep the site welcoming and safe

This project was built on inclusivity, collaboration and the belief that nature should be accessible to all. Winning 1st prize for this effort means the world to everyone involved.

Celebrating Community Spirit at the Ferrycarrig Hotel

The awards evening at the Ferrycarrig Hotel was a truly uplifting event. Surrounded by inspiring community groups, environmental leaders and local volunteers, we were reminded just how much good work is being done across County Wexford.

The ceremony, paid tribute to individuals and organisations who are making real strides in areas such as biodiversity, waste reduction, accessibility, and community enhancement.
To stand among such passionate groups — and to take home 1st place — was both an honour and a motivation to keep going.

What This Award Means for the Future

This recognition energises us to continue developing the site, strengthening community bonds, and welcoming new gardeners into our ever-growing family.

We are committed to:

  • Expanding accessible gardening spaces

  • Running workshops and community events

  • Creating new wildlife and biodiversity zones
