Bereavement Policy
Purpose
Enniscorthy Community Allotments aims to respond with respect, compassion and consistency when a bereavement affects our community.
Scope
This policy applies in the event of the death of:
- A current member
- A committee member or volunteer
- An immediate family member of a current member (partner, parent, child, sibling)
Acknowledgement of Bereavement
The group may mark a bereavement in one of the following ways, as appropriate:
- Sending sympathy condolences (card or message WhatsApp group)
- Providing a wreath or floral tribute
Wreath Policy
- A wreath will be provided for the funeral of:
- A current member
- A committee member
- For the death of an immediate family member of a member, a sympathy card will normally be sent.
- Any exceptions will be considered at the discretion of the committee, taking account of circumstances and available funds.
Support and Flexibility
Members affected by bereavement may step back from allotment activities without penalty. Plot responsibilities or volunteering commitments may be paused or adjusted for an agreed period.
Confidentiality
All bereavement information will be treated sensitively and shared only where necessary.
Review
This policy will be reviewed periodically by the committee.
